Each Tavlos screen door is made out of 1 1/4" kiln dried poplar. All the joints are mortise and tenon and further reinforced with four 3/8" fluted wood dowels per joint. The doors are glued together using Titebond II ® weather-proof glue, then each door is bar clamped for at least six hours. The design element is attached using tongue and groove joinery. Each door has a primer coat and at least two coats of exterior enamel paint are applied before the door is distressed and antiqued. Last but not least, four coats of varathane satin finish are applied to provide maximum protection for your door from all the elements.
Each screen door can easily be converted into a storm door by exchanging the screens with tempered glass windows as the seasons change.
Although these doors come in standard colors, we will create special custom colors upon request or simply choose from the available color combos you will find on this website.
Choose from my many different door designs or I will be happy to collaborate in creating your own special design.
Think about it friends, each Tavlos screen door is a signed, unique piece of functional art. Even if the design is repeated many times there can never, ever be two that are exactly alike !
I am very proud of my screen doors, they're made the old fashioned way, created to last for generations right here in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
